Colitis

Treatment for colitis, an inflammation or irritation of the colon.

  • Drink plenty of plain warm water or with a little olive oil added to soften and remove accumulated hardened matter sticking to the colonic walls, promoting colitis. Take 2 glasses of water first thing in the morning to stimulate bowel movement, if possible at the same time in the morning everyday to prevent colitis.
  • Do a fresh fruit juice fast or with a little boiled water added for 5-7 days consisting of fresh fruit juices of papaya, raw cabbage, carrots, etc. avoiding citrus fruits. After the juice fast, eat small, frequent meals of soft cooked or steamed vegetables, rice, well ripened fruits like banana and papaya, yogurt and home-made cottage cheese. Add sprouted seeds and grains, whole meal bread and raw vegetables may after about 10 days. Chew thoroughly and slowly all eaten foods. Avoid white sugar, white bread and white flour products, highly seasoned foods, highly salted foods, strong tea, coffee and alcoholic beverages and foods cooked in aluminium pans.
  • Eat ripe bananas for ulcerative colitis to relieve acute symptoms and promote the healing process.
  • Drink coconut water for its soothing relief during colitis.
  • Consume cooked apples for its iron and phosphorus to aid in the healing of ulcerative colitis, or drink apple juice to relieve the burning sensation.
  • Take 2 teaspoons cider vinegar and 2 teaspoons honey with distilled water, 3x a day.
  • Take 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel 2x daily.
  • Cook 2 seeded and peeled apples. Mash into pulp and add a pinch of nutmeg (and optional 1 teaspoon ghee) before eating them.
  • Avoid spicy foods, alcohol and smoking.
  • To prevent colitis, take grated carrots with 4 cups carrot juice every day.
  • Mix 6 oz. spinach juice with 10 oz. carrot juice and take 2 - 4 cups daily.
  • Boil 60gm cabbage leaves in ½ liter water for 1 hour. Drink ½ cup at a time.
  • Eat fresh or sun dried figs daily.
  • Drink 2 cups cabbage juice daily, or 4 cups when mixed with 50:50 carrot juice.
  • Foods good for colitis: almonds, papaya, sunflower seeds, squash.
  • Avoid greasy, fatty foods, milk, cream or soft cheese.
  • Other measures : Drink plenty of plain water, avoiding straining, have complete bed rest and avoid stressful situations.
