Hiccups

Hiccups are involuntary spasm of the diaphragm caused by the sudden rush of air into the lungs, which in turn causes the glottis to close. This creates the common hiccup noise.

  • Take a deep breath, hold, then gradually exhale to stop hiccups, or inhale and exhale through a paper bag for 1 -2 minutes, holding its edges near the nose.
  • Dip the index finger into a mixture of 1 teaspoon each honey and castor oil and lick it every 2-3 minutes to relieve hiccups.
  • Take ½ tsp grounded black cumin seeds with a glass of buttermilk.
  • Take a handful of crusted rice and soak in a glass of water. Drink immediately and take a deep breathe thereafter.
  • Add 1 tablespoon grounded mint leaves to 1 cup water. Take the water 2-3x a day.
  • Suck on a small piece of fresh ginger.
  • Drink coconut water.
  • Boil cardamom powder in 2 cups water until saturated to a cup. Filter, and drink it warm.

  • Drink lemon juice, with or without honey added, or  orange juice from half an orange.
  • Eat 1 teaspoon peanut butter.
  • Drink a mixture of the juice of one lemon in ½ glass water. Drink and repeat if necessary.
  • Suck on a slice of lime.
  • Cut a lemon in half, add a little salt on one half, then suck the juice out of the salted lemon.
  • Suck on an ice cube, or sip on any fluid a few times.
  • Mix 1 teaspoon vinegar in a glass of warm water. Sip it slowly.
  • Sip a cup of warm water with a little honey in it.
  • Sip lukewarm milk, or sugar cane juice.
  • Swallow pineapple juice in quick succession a few times. Repeat every hour until hiccups stop.
